"How can I hang my magnetic board on the wall?"

This is one of the questions you most often ask us before buying a magnetic board.

If you, like our boss in the picture below, are a bit confused about the right way to "fix" your magnetic board, then read on!

How to hang a magnetic board on the wall with screws and wall plugs

Magnetic boards made of steel can be quite heavy, even when they are very thin.

That's why it's always best to fix them securely with screws and wall plugs, avoiding more 'creative' methods such as double-sided tape or Velcro strips!

If you are thinking of buying a KalaMitica magnetic board, you will find a fixing kit with screws, wall plugs and screw hole covers in the package.

The screws supplied are suitable for a normal masonry wall and can also be used for solid wood. If you need to fix your magnetic board to a plasterboard wall, we recommend that you use suitable wall plugs.

What you need

  • tape measure
  • pencil
  • spirit level
  • drill with Ø 4 mm bit
  • KalaMitica fixing kit with screws, wall plugs and hole covers
  • screwdriver

Procedure for hanging magnetic boards on the wall with screws and wall plugs

  1. Using a tape measure and pencil, mark the point on the wall where you wish to make the first hole.
  2. Place the board on the wall, with one of its holes at the marked point.
  3. With the help of a spirit level, place the board in the correct position and mark the remaining holes with a pencil. Get help from another person if the board is very large or heavy.
  4. Set the board aside and drill holes in the wall at the marked points.
  5. Take the wall plugs from the kit provided and insert them into the holes in the wall.
  6. Place the board back on the wall, making sure that you position it in the correct direction: the holes are countersunk!
  7. Take the screws from the fixing kit, insert them into the holes and tighten them with a screwdriver.
  8. Take the hole covers from the fixing kit and stick them over the screws to create a uniform surface.

How to fix a magnetic board to the wall without drilling holes in the wall

Magnetic boards can also be attached without drilling holes in the wall, using grab adhesives or strong glues.

There are different types on the market, and you can choose the one that best suits your needs and the type of wall on which you want to fix the board.

Many types of adhesive already have a nozzle to facilitate application; in other cases, it will be necessary to get a caulk gun.

This method is recommended for DIY beginners, for those who do not want to drill holes in the wall because they are afraid of ruining it, or for walls made of particular materials, as in the case of a kitchen backsplash or a bathroom wall with ceramic tiles.

In this case, we recommend that you do not drill holes in the wall and attach the board with grab adhesives. If necessary, this kind of adhesive can be removed without damaging the surfaces, using a scraper and a suitable remover.

Procedure for hanging magnetic boards without drilling the wall

  1. Using a tape measure and a spirit level, identify the position on the wall where you want to hang the board: with the board against the wall, mark the corners or holes with a pencil. Get help from another person if the board is very big or heavy.
  2. Apply silicone glue / grab adhesive to the back of the board.
  3. Place the board on the wall, taking care to follow the points marked in pencil on the wall.
  4. Press firmly on the board for a few moments, so that it sticks well to the wall.
  5. Take the hole cover stickers from the supplied kit and stick them on the holes to hide them and create a uniform surface.

Extra tips...

Here are a few more tips:

  • Are you undecided about the size or colour of the chalkboard to buy? Take a piece of cardboard or coloured card, cut it to the size you want and stick it to the wall with a bit of paper tape!
  • Pay close attention to the direction of the board, especially if you want to hang it with screws and wall plugs! KalaMitica boards have countersunk holes, which means that they are conical in shape, wider at the front and narrower at the back, so that the screws are perfectly aligned with the surface of the board. In this way, and with the addition of the screw cover stickers, the final effect will be more elegant and refined.
If you have accidentally glued the board backwards, don't worry: the surfaces are identical anyway, no one will notice the difference!

  • Have you glued the board to tiles or another very smooth surface? Then stick paper tape around the entire perimeter of the board for at least 24 hours until the glue has set and the board is perfectly fixed.
